Upon arrival as I was walking in to the hotel entrance I was disappointed straight away, the lighting made it look like I was walking in to a laser tag arena. Being visually impaired this lighting was awful. We took the elevator to the reception lobby where the lighting was still just as bad. It was dark with purple neon tube lighting on the walls. Check in was bad. We queued for a few minutes and when it was finally our turn, I'm not sure what the lady had a problem with on the computer but the queue to the left of us had 6 arrivals checked in by the time the lady finally asked for my details. When I told her my name she informed us the room I had booked was not available, I could have another room but not the Times Square view room I had booked. I could be moved there the next day though. I was really annoyed, I was only in New York for a few days, I'm disabled so I didn't want to get out my things one night just to pack it the next day just to get it out again just to pack it again! I wasn't happy, I had this trip booked for a year, my mum had paid for it for my 40th birthday gift. So I told the receptionist this and insisted I wanted the room that had been paid extra for, it wasn't like I could just return next week to get the room I had booked. I was tired and very annoyed. I just wanted to get to my room, I was at check in for some time. The receptionist gave me and my son a free complimentary drink at the bar for my birthday. When I finally got to my room, it was nice, the Times Square view was really nice. TV was big & room was clean. Bathroom was very small though. 2 beds, tv on the wall, a desk with a phone, a safe, a fridge. We've been to New York before and the hotel we stayed at last time cost less but we had 2 bathrooms, a lounge, a kitchen, a walk in closet and a room with 2 beds and I've been to Las Vegas where the rooms are amazing so to me this room was just standard. Luckily I took my own kettle and hairdryer.
